JIM JAMS: Delirium tremens; fit of depression or nervousness
Delirium tremens: a severe psychotic condition occurring in some persons with chronic alcoholism, characterized by delirium, tremor, anxiety, and vivid hallucinations
Stop! I thought jim jams were pj’s, pyjamas, sleep wear.
This is when my trusty dictionary is replaced by Google. So what does google say:
Colins Online Dictionary:
- a slang word for delirium tremens
- a state of nervous tension, excitement, or anxiety
- (informal) pyjamas
So how did pyjamas morf into jim jams?
Good question! Slang changes as quickly as hastags these days. Found your blog through the A to Z Challenge. Keep up the good work. http://www.dianeweidenbenner.com
Hi Diane, thanks for reading my post, Slang is an interesting topic in itself. Maybe my next A-Z challenge.

I’ve never heard of this! So fun to think about how one word gets transferred to another! Fun! I’m going to have to do some research!
Awesome – According to Urban dictionary online, jimjams for PJ’s is British slang. Let me know when you find out more. Thanks
